Each year, the Oconto County Outreach Office strives to create awareness about domestic violence in unique ways. Please take a moment to see what we have displayed throughout our county this year. We invited you to visit one of the displays to show your support! Thank you!

Piece for Peace |
| This display was created with the help of various 2nd graders at Oconto, Oconto Falls, Gillett, Spruce, Abrams, and Lena Elementary Schools. The children were asked to create a Piece for Peace using drawings or words on what the word “peace” meant to them. Their views ranged from singing, dancing, no more war, using manners and kind words to helping people in need. |
Their messages, yet so simple, remind us of how our words and actions affect others. Children see, hear and then imitate what their role models do. As adults, we have a responsibility to show and teach our children “peace” by treating others with respect and kindness, whether it be family, friends, neighbors or strangers. |
The students at Abrams Elementary School put it so well, “We Treat Others The Way We Would Like Others To Treat Us.” This “Golden Rule” sends all of us a powerful message to live by. These displays will be housed at Oconto County Courthouse as well as many of the elementary schools in Oconto County. |

Could You Be a "Life Saver" ? |
We recognize victims of
domestic violence during the month of October and felt we should also
recognize young adults who are in abusive dating relationships.
The message behind these
displays that are placed in various middle and high schools in Oconto
County are: "If you know of a friend or classmate who is being hurt in a dating relationship, please tell a trusted adult." |
Each basket has individually wrapped Life Saver candies with the message printed on it. We will also be offering a session for parents "What is Teen Dating Violence?" sometime during the month. Stay tuned for a date and time of this event. |

CUT IT OUT Week |
| During the week of October 4th to 11th, eight participating hair salons will be featuring jars to collect spare change. All proceeds go to Rainbow House. |
The Cut It Out program is a national curriculum that helps train stylists about the signs of domestic violence and how to help a client who is being abused. |
Many victims will confide in their stylist about what they are experiencing. So being able to equip stylists with the necessary local resources to refer their clients for help is part of this national program. If you stop by a participating salon this month, please feel free to drop some spare change into the decorated jar. Thank you! |
